Testing out a new method of posting photos suggested by a friend (HOORAY!! It works! Thank you, Sarah!).
Here is Ellen with her new fish, 4 guppies, 2 male and 2 female. Only the females are still alive. I think we all agree that this proves something…
Tomorrow officially begins the busy season for my husband. For whatever reason he is busiest in the springtime, a time when I would so rather him be home with us enjoying the longer, warmer days. Well, the theoretically warmer days. Today it is chilly and rainy and doing what the weather is supposed to be doing at the end of March in Minnesota. I used to love rainy days. What an eternally good excuse from Mother Nature to sit and read a book or knit or any other million things that are so nice when the pressure to soak up vitamin D isn’t so great. Now, well, now I have a toddler. I have been struggling with the decision of whether or not to send her to preschool this fall and it is on days like today that I imagine what moments to myself might be like while she is safely in a class learning to her heart’s content.
I am not looking forward to my upcoming single parenthood, and in preparation went to my favorite local toy store to purchase a few things for the stash. Should the weather continue, I will be ready…at least for one afternoon…
What you don’t know about these two is that this is rare. Ellen has that love/hate relationship with Astrid where she loves to make Astrid scream and she hates to share with her.
This morning I got together with some friends for some playtime together (both the mothers and the children…) and must say that I don’t think I would be able to be a SAHM without my friends. I live hundreds of miles from both sides of our families and when I think back on my childhood I have to admit to being a little sad. Only because Ellen will never know what it is like to go to Grandma’s on a weekly (if not daily at times) basis. This is why I am thankful for my local chosen family. Just this morning as my daughter coughed into the face of a baby (cringe!) & I was so happy to have that baby’s Mama correct her on the spot. I am thankful to have friends that can and will correct her; not because I won’t or don’t, but because they are family.
Thanks, guys.
I made crayons with Ellen recently. Theoretically, that is. Turns out this project is better suited for older kids, as she had a hard time understanding why I kept “taking” her crayons. They did, however, turn out nice and she likes the way they change colors as she draws with them.
Struggling to finish my new workspace…more on that later.
“Where is the hat I knit for you?”
“I didn’t wear it here.”
Sarcastically, “Why? Don’t you like it?”
With equal, if not more sarcasm, “No, you’re fat.”
After so much deliberation and brow-beating by my good friends, here it is, my first post. It was my goal today in the inclement weather to publish it and I feel very fortunate that my husband got home early enough for me to do it. There will probably be many changes, since I am still learning about WordPress, but, well…I digress.
A couple of weekends ago my husband and I went on a long-awaited “first trip away from the girl”. We went to Vegas. I would not have chosen this destination were it not for a conference my husband had to attend. I feel very Vegasatiated. I did all of the things one just must do while in Vegas. We saw Jubilee, the classic topless showgirl revue, ate like royalty and I even caught a run on blackjack. I do not, however, feel a pressing need to return. Ever. That place has got to be the most opulent over-the-top place I have ever seen. I likened it to Mackinac Island on cocaine, which will not mean anything to those of you who have never worked a summer on Mackinac.
